I'm a slug!

Okay, we all have figured out now that I am not real good at keeping this up on a regular basis! I will try to do better but, no promises:-).

I have been doing quite a bit of reading and have several books to recommend. Some of the books are from the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl list and are really good. I am trying to read the same books that my team reads so I can keep encouraging them. Leepike Ridge (an HRRB pick) is an exciting mystery that moves at a pretty good pace. Hiroshima Dreams (HHRB also) is good but not your typical middle grade book. It's one that makes you think and feel. In some ways, it reminded me of how A Single Shard made me feel when I read it. I loved both books and would recommend them.

Right now I am reading the Ted Dekker series for middle grades, The Lost Books, and am loving it! It has excitement, adventure, mystery, danger, love, everything! Once I started the first one, I couldn't put it down. I just finished the 3rd one and am having to wait until the 4th one comes (on order). Reading this series also interested me in Dekker's adult series, The Circle Trilogy, which is connected to the Lost Books series by the main character. I'm almost finished with the first one, Black, and am enjoying it also.

There are so many good books out there to read but just not enough time (work gets in the way)! I was just talking with another teacher yesterday about favorite books we read growing up. Georgette Heyer, Emilie Loring, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Mary Higgins Clark, Jane Aiken Hodge, and Victoria Holt are just a few we talked about. Wow, what a wide variety of styles just in those few names. I'd love to hear some of your favorite authors.

Okay, enough for today. Later!!

I can't believe that so much time has passed since I last posted! I am really going to try to do better. I finished the Percy Jackson series and it's really a good one. I liked the way it ended too! If you haven't read this series of books then you really should!

I was in Barnes and Noble today and picked up some new books for the library. I just finished one titled My fair Godmother by Janette Rallison. I totally enjoyed this book and highly recommend it! The main character is a 17 year old girl who gets sent back to the middle ages by her Fair Godmother (she isn't a "fairy" godmother because she didn't listen well in school) as an extra credit project. There are quite a few laughs in this story, a mystery, sword fighting, a leprechaun, magic, and an ogre, just to mention a few. I think you're going to love it! It should be ready for check out by Tuesday.

So, what have you read new?

Back to work!

Wow - I blinked the the weekend was gone! I didn't even get to have coffee this morning:-(
I was able to finish The Sea of Monsters on Friday. Great book and just as exciting as the first one! Now I've started reading the 3rd in the series, The Curse of the Titans, and am enjoying it too. Sadly, I can read as much now that school has started (at least for teachers it has). As I said in the previous post, I'm looking for great books to add to the media center collection so let me know what you've read over the summer.

Myths, demigods, and heros

I guess my reading time will get even shorter and my second cup of coffee will start being in my travel mug starting Monday! I want to hear about the books you have read over the summer, especially since I will be working on getting my first book order ready. Are there new book discoveries that I need to order for the media center? Let me know soon!

If you haven't read the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan then you really need to try it! I wasn't sure that I would like it when I started reading the first one (The Lightning Thief) but it only took a few pages to get me hooked. Right now I'm reading the second book, The Sea of Monsters, and it's just as great as the first! Within the first 5-6 pages the action starts and, so far, hasn't quit. Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson (Percy's new friend) have to try and save Camp Half-Blood before the monsters, from the underworld, destroy it. I haven't had a lot of time to read lately but, when I do, this is hard to put down! My goal is to finish before Monday. Am I going to make it? I'll let you know.

Later!

Where did the summer go?

Well, we are at the end of summer and I haven't accomplished everything on my "to do list". Is anyone that knows me surprised? I don't think so. I have cleaned out and had a yard sale with friends which is one of the things I had planned/needed to do. I have also taken time to enjoy reading some good books, watch butterflies & birds, and enjoy my morning coffee! I've got some really great books to tell you about and I hope you have some to share with me!
